myORTHODONTIST Coquitlam is part of a BC-wide network of specialist orthodontic practices founded by Dr. Aly Kanani. We serve Coquitlam, Port Moody, Port Coquitlam and Burke Mountain from 1158 The High Street at Coquitlam Centre. This site is our way of practising in public: the criteria we publish are the ones we work to.

Specialist-led, always

Diagnosis and planning by certified specialists in orthodontics — never delegated. Your general dentist remains the quarterback of your oral health; we handle this one discipline deeply and coordinate with them throughout.

Every option on the table

Conventional and ceramic braces, and the full Invisalign family including Invisalign First for children and Invisalign Teen. The recommendation fits the case, not the inventory.

Airway-aware by default

Breathing, sleep and jaw development are screened alongside tooth position at every assessment. Sometimes that changes the plan; often it confirms a conventional approach. Either way we look, and we'll tell you what we found.

Accessible by design

Free consultations. Free monitoring for children whose timing isn't right yet. Written fees with retainers included. Payment plans through our office and direct insurance billing. And support for Smiles Change Lives, which provides treatment to children whose families could not otherwise afford it.

A typical week at our clinic

Seven-year-olds in for a first look, most leaving with a recall date and a sticker. Nine- and ten-year-olds in twin blocks, having the expansion screw turned and the bite checked. Teenagers at six-week adjustments, choosing colours. Adults in aligners, dropping in for a ten-minute tracking check between meetings. Debond days, which are the best days. Retention checks for patients who finished years ago. And, most weeks, a second opinion or two for families who wanted another set of eyes — which we're glad to give, and glad to receive.

How we make decisions

Records first, always: photographs, a scan, a panoramic X-ray, and for children and bite cases a profile X-ray, because the single most important question — teeth or jaws? — can't be answered without it. Then the pattern, the growth stage, and the options that fit, priced side by side. We fit metal, ceramic and self-ligating braces and the full Invisalign family, so the case decides, not the inventory. And where the pattern is skeletal in a growing child, we lean toward guiding growth, because we've seen what it saves later.

Frequently asked questions about our practice

What our airway-aware assessment means in practice

At every first visit we ask about snoring, mouth breathing and sleep, and we look at the palate, the tongue posture, the lips at rest and the position of the lower jaw — because breathing and jaw development shape each other during growth. Sometimes that changes the plan: a child who'd otherwise be monitored gets expansion because the palate is narrow and the child snores. Often it confirms a conventional approach. Occasionally it sends a family to their doctor or an ENT before anything orthodontic begins. Airway involvement is patient-specific and we never oversell it; we simply look, every time, and say what we see.

Our relationship with the dentists of the Tri-Cities

Many of our patients arrive by referral from general dentists in Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, and we regard those relationships as the backbone of the practice. We send findings and plans back promptly, coordinate sequencing when dental work and orthodontics overlap, and never treat a referral as a patient to be kept. Dentists are the quarterbacks of their patients' oral health; we're the specialists they call on for one discipline. Some of those dentists provide orthodontic care themselves, and some do it very well — when a case sits within their range, we'll say so and send it back.

The team, and the languages we speak

Our treatment coordinators — Adrienne, Amit and Beata — walk families through options, written fees, insurance mapping and payment plans; certified dental assistants do much of the hands-on work at every visit. Between us we speak English, Tagalog, Polish, Spanish, Punjabi, Farsi, Vietnamese and Mandarin; tell us your preference when you book. Same-day repairs are available and there is after-hours support.

Technology, in proportion

We have iTero digital scanners, CBCT 3D imaging, a soft-tissue laser, digital photography and AI-assisted analysis, alongside the modern brackets, wires and aligner planning software. We mention them last because they're table stakes — every credible clinic has them — and because none of them replaces the diagnosis. A scanner produces a beautiful model of a bite it can't interpret. The interpretation is the specialist's job, and it's what the years of training and cases are for.

myORTHODONTIST is a group of specialist orthodontic practices across British Columbia, each locally staffed and specialist-led, sharing a clinical philosophy — growth modification where indicated, every option honestly compared, fees that include retainers — and the operational depth that a single clinic can't easily provide: consistent standards, peer review of complex cases, and the ability to continue a patient's treatment at a sister clinic if a family moves within the province. For a Coquitlam patient, the practical effect is a local clinic with a local team, backed by a network that has managed tens of thousands of cases. Dr. Kanani founded it; Dr. Haerian leads the Coquitlam chair.

How we measure ourselves

Not by case volume, though ours is high. By the proportion of seven-year-olds who leave with a recall date rather than an appliance — we want that number high. By the proportion of teenage cases finished without extractions — we want that high too. By how often referring dentists send the next patient, and how often patients send a sibling. By how rarely a fee changes after it's been quoted. And by whether a family could explain their own treatment plan to a friend, which is the standard this whole site is built on.
